Your Investment Matters in Therapy

If you’re someone looking for therapy, you’re probably in the process of figuring out what therapist is going to be the right fit for you. You’re probably visiting websites, reading bios, and booking consultation calls.

You may be asking yourself questions, like “does this counselor get me?” or “can this counselor help me solve my problems?”

Of course, you want to feel a connection with the counselor that you choose, but choosing a counselor is only part of the equation.

What’s the other part of the equation?

You.

It’s Not Just About Showing Up

Starting counseling isn’t just about whether you show up, it’s also about how you show up.

The reality is that some clients will get more out of their counseling experience than others. It doesn’t mean that they have less severe problems. It generally means that they showed up differently in the first place.

One of the factors that influences how you show up is the type of counseling experience you choose.

Types of Counseling

Most clients starting therapy decide between two main options, an insurance-based practice or a self-pay practice.

What Are Self-Pay Counselors

Self-pay counselors (like me) are counselors that choose not to work directly with insurance companies. We often make this decision so we can focus more intensely on our client work without the limitations or administrative burdens that working with insurance companies imposes.

In a world where using insurance for therapy is common, you might wonder, “why would I choose a self-pay counselor when I can see someone that accepts my insurance for cheaper?”

Why Choose Self-Pay (Even if You Have Insurance)

  • Working with a self-pay counselor has obvious benefits as it pertains to your privacy. There is no permanent medical record created and no diagnosis is required.

  • With self-pay, your insurance cannot dictate the number of sessions you have or impose any limits on your treatment. This allows you to move at your own pace and allows us to do deeper level work without restrictions.

  • It also allows me more flexibility in how I can help you. As a trained, Reiki Master-Teacher (energy healer), I am very in tune with your energy and where you may be experiencing blockages caused by unprocessed emotions. By being self-pay, I am able to offer Integrated Therapy + Reiki sessions. Learn more about Reiki here.

Cost and Value

The 3D reality we currently live in is dominated by money. There isn’t a day that passes that we don’t spend money or use something that was bought with money.

This has caused most of our brains to be wired to view things with a higher cost as having higher value.

Thoughts and Reality

Our thoughts and beliefs shape how we experience this reality. What we expect to happen, typically happens because that’s what we’ve wired ourselves to be attuned to and what we are energetically calling in to our experience (Law of Attraction).

Your Investment in Yourself

People generally don’t make high level investments into anything if they don’t expect it to provide some form of value to their lives. When they decide to make a larger financial investment into their mental health, they are also making a fuller commitment to the therapy process.

That commitment impacts how they show up in the counseling space.

They show up:

  • More invested (mentally, emotionally, and energetically)

  • More ready to do the hard work

  • More dedicated to their goals

  • More focused on the transformation they want to achieve

Subconscious Change is the Only Change That Matters

Real change won’t happen unless you change who you’re being at a subconscious level. When you decide to work with a self-pay counselor it starts shifting things in your subconscious before you’ve even set foot in the counselor’s office for the first time.

The Actual Shift

When you decide to financially invest more into your mental health, you communicate something very important to yourself: “I am valuable.”

Your Self-Relationship

We typically take better care of things when we view them as valuable. Believing you are valuable, automatically starts to change how you show up for yourself. You start to view yourself with more curiosity and compassion.

That curiosity and compassion helps you do even deeper level healing work in the therapy room. You create space to grow your sense of self-worth, develop self-trust, and foster self-love.

Your Healing Starts The Moment You Start Choosing Yourself.
